Hello everyone, and welcome back to my delicious Korean daily vlog. Finding fresh and high-quality seafood in a landlocked city can sometimes be a challenge, but today, I am incredibly excited to share a hidden culinary gem with you.

Today, my husband and I visited an amazing local restaurant in Daegu that specializes in “Kaisendon” (Japanese seafood rice bowls). The freshness of the sashimi, the beautiful presentation, and the cozy atmosphere made this an unforgettable dining experience. Let me take you on a mouth-watering journey to Namsan-dong!

Location, Operating Hours, and Parking Tips

This amazing restaurant is located in the charming neighborhood of Namsan-dong. The exterior has a clean, aesthetic vibe that makes you feel like you have stepped into a premium sushi bar. For travelers planning to visit, the exact address is 915-3 Namsan-dong, Jung-gu, Daegu, and it is open every single day from 11:30 AM to 9:00 PM (21:00).

To make your trip easier, you can find the exact location right here: Kyoukaisen on Google Maps.

Here is a very important local tip: Parking right in front of the restaurant is quite difficult because it is located in a bustling neighborhood. You will need to find a parking spot in the nearby small alleys. If you are renting a car, please keep this in mind and arrive a little early to find a good spot!

What We Ordered: Special Bowl and Chicken Nanban

When you visit daegu kaisendon kyoukaisen, deciding what to order is the best kind of problem to have. To help my foreign readers, let me explain their amazing menu based on what we ordered today.

The basic menu includes 10 pieces of assorted seasonal fish such as tuna, red sea bream, flounder, salmon, mackerel, and ankimo (monkfish liver). However, my husband and I went all out and ordered the Special Kaisendon, which adds 5 more premium pieces, including abalone, sweet shrimp, red sea bream belly, and engawa, for a massive total of 15 pieces!

We also ordered a side of Chicken Nanban (Japanese fried chicken with tartar sauce). The chicken was incredibly juicy, crispy, and the creamy sauce paired perfectly with the fresh seafood.

As for the sashimi, the absolute highlight today was the tuna! It was so fresh, fatty, and literally melted in my mouth. By the way, if you are a picky eater, do not worry! If you only want to eat tuna, they have a dedicated “Tuna Kaisendon.” If you only love salmon, you can order the “Salmon Kaisendon.” They have options for everyone!

How to Eat It Like a Local

If this is your first time eating a seafood rice bowl, please do not just mix it all together like a regular Korean bibimbap! Let me share the secret to enjoying this dish to the absolute fullest.

The restaurant provides roasted seaweed (gim). The best way to eat it is to take a piece of seaweed, place a small spoonful of seasoned rice on it, and add a thick slice of sashimi. Finally, top it with the “Suji leaf” (a special pickled ginger and cabbage mix provided by the restaurant). Wrap it all up and take a bite. The combination of the crispy seaweed, soft rice, savory fish, and the refreshing kick of the pickled ginger cabbage is truly out of this world!

🎁 A Lucky “Service” (Complimentary Surprise)!

Oh, and I have to share one more amazing thing that happened today! In Korean restaurant culture, we have something called “Service” (서비스), which means a complimentary dish given by the chef. Today, we got incredibly lucky!

The chef kindly gave us a few pieces of torched, grilled tuna sushi (Aburi Maguro) absolutely free of charge! The lightly seared tuna had a wonderful smoky flavor and melted instantly. If you are lucky when you visit, you might just receive a special surprise like this too!
