If you are looking for the beautiful gimcheon traditional cafe solhyang, you have absolutely come to the right place! Hello everyone, and welcome back to my Korean travel and food vlog. Today, my husband and I decided to take a short, peaceful road trip outside of the bustling city.
Gimcheon is a serene city located not too far from Daegu, making it an absolute favorite destination for a quick weekend day trip. Our main goal today was to explore the famous thousand-year-old Jikjisa Temple and enjoy some relaxing cafe time. We brought our adorable dog along with us, so finding a pet-friendly spot was a top priority. If you love traditional Korean culture, nature, and dog-friendly places, you have to read about our magical afternoon!
1. A Beautiful Retreat Near Jikjisa Temple
Before heading to the cafe, we took a long, refreshing walk around Jikjisa Temple and the nearby Samyeongdaesa Park. The architecture of the ancient temple combined with the lush green nature is breathtaking. It is the perfect place to meditate, take stunning photos, and breathe in the fresh mountain air.
After doing all that walking, we naturally needed a place to rest our feet and grab a refreshing drink. That is when we discovered gimcheon traditional cafe solhyang. Nestled beautifully near the temple grounds, this cafe perfectly captures the harmonious blend of modern comfort and traditional Korean aesthetics. Finding an authentic spot right next to a major historical landmark made our travel itinerary feel effortless and complete.

2. Authentic Korean Tea: The Magic of Omija
Instead of ordering my usual iced Americano, I decided to fully embrace the traditional vibe of the area. I ordered a glass of cold “Omija-cha” (Korean traditional five-flavor berry tea).
Omija literally translates to “five flavors” because the berry has a complex taste profile: sweet, sour, salty, bitter, and pungent. When made into an iced tea, it has a brilliantly vibrant red color and a deeply refreshing, sweet, and tangy flavor. It was the absolute perfect drink to cool down after our hike around the temple. Experiencing real Korean traditional tea like this at gimcheon traditional cafe solhyang is something every foreign traveler must try at least once!

3. Cute and Delicious Root Vegetable Breads
Now, let’s talk about the desserts! We ordered their famous “Potato Bread” and “Sweet Potato Bread.” In South Korea, there is a huge baking trend of creating breads that look exactly like actual root vegetables!
When the plate arrived, they literally looked like miniature, freshly harvested potatoes and sweet potatoes. But the real magic happens when you take a bite. The outside layer is incredibly soft and chewy, almost like mochi, while the inside is stuffed with warm, sweet, and creamy mashed potato and sweet potato fillings. The combination of the sweet and sour Omija tea with these hearty, chewy breads was an absolute match made in heaven.
4. Operating Hours & A Pet-Friendly Environment
Before you pack your bags, you should definitely note their operating hours. The cafe is open every single day from 11:00 AM to 9:00 PM. Because they are open all week long with no break times, you can easily stop by for a mid-day snack or enjoy a quiet evening tea after exploring the temple.
Also, one of the main reasons we chose this spot was because it is incredibly pet-friendly! Traveling with a dog in Korea can sometimes be difficult. However, this cafe welcomed our dog with open arms. We were able to relax with our furry best friend by our side. You can easily plan your visit to the temple and this amazing cafe by checking out the area on Google Maps.
